proposition 8 passed in california.

Post by belle of the boulevard. on Thu 06 Nov 2008, 5:02 am

the first state to allow full gay marriages, california, has today passed a proposition re-banning them.

you can find out more on pretty much any news site.

personally, this makes me so, so disappointed in humanity. it is no skin off those homophobes' noses to allow something that doesn't affect them to take place. it brought joy to so many people who had been suffering from discrimination.

one question i have is what happens to those who married inside the window between it being allowed and today.

thoughts?

I didn't hear about this until today.
It breaks my heart. I physically can't understand why they would do this.
Why would they pass the law and re-ban it?

It disappoints me. People who voted yes for this disappoint me like nothing else.

I hate that California regressed.
It's pretty much the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

Next thing you know they won't allow women the right to vote Rolling Eyes

That's harsh. Neutral

Of course I was upset. Really upset. Only a few people will know the full extent of why.

But, it was only 52% to 48%

San Fran is the gay capital of the world. Whenever somewhere exhibits excessive amounts of gay pride, there is a likeliness that anyone who may have been nonchalant towards the issue of gay marriage might be put off. I'm not blaming california's gays, but you can't blame the eitirety of the population. Only people over 21 are allowed to vote, which rules out a huge section of the population.

It's two steps forward, one step back. No need to be so extreme
